Adderall is a prescription drug that includes 2 substances: amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. It is in a group of medicines called stimulants. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most prevalent condition for which it is prescribed (ADHD). Additionally, it is used to control narcolepsy.
For people with ADHD, Adderall is the drug of choice. Adderall and Adderall XR have been studied for their ability to improve attention and focus, as well as their ability to minimize impulsive behaviors. With the use of stimulants such as Adderall, symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in youngsters can be reduced by 75 to 80 %.
Adderall is apparently beneficial at increasing daytime wakefulness in persons with narcolepsy, although there is inadequate research to support this claim.
There are two types of Adderall:
- Adderall oral tablet is the immediate-release (IR)Â formulation of this drug.
- Adderall XR oral capsule, which is an extended-release (ER)Â formulation of the drug.
In most cases, the recommended dose of Adderall XR is 20 mg taken once daily in the morning. When used to treat ADHD in children aged 6 years and older, the normal dose is 5 to 10 mg once daily in the morning.
Adults and children 6 years of age and older who are being treated for ADHD with Adderall IR typically begin with a dose of 5 mg given orally once or twice daily.
In the approved dosages, Adderall is considered to be safe for long-term usage. With sustained usage of the medication, many people report that common adverse effects such as lack of appetite, dry mouth, and insomnia have been minimized. Others may experience these adverse effects indefinitely.
Long-term use of Adderall or other stimulants may induce various changes in the brain, such as decreased dopamine levels. This appears to be more frequent in persons who misuse Adderall in high amounts.Â
Adderall may cause some people to feel energetic, concentrated, excited, or self-assured, depending on their individual conditions. Feelings of euphoria can also arise from time to time. These side effects are more likely if the drug is used in the wrong way.
